uNHEARD VOICES D02

unheard voices | the Screaming one

As a continuation to Unheard Voices D01, D02 continued the process of typographic 3D-metal experimentation in space, yet with sound integrated. Taking the same scheme of message through poetry again and the same material that in turn brought inspiration to a continued process. The bars of type are this time separated and suspended freely to swing into each other making the sound of the metal/type hitting each other and thus the installation speaks to its audience, making D02 the screaming version to the silent D01. Afterall, the voices are out there, all you have to do is listen. Those voices can be pleasing to some but also disturbing to others. An additional layer gets in of reading between the lines to create meaning and understanding to each. Here comes a further experimentation on the type of metal used to cling out the sounds within keeping the weight given by it that also adds to the weight of the message on the audience, as well as the lighting integrated to strongly bring out the shadows.

This was an attempt to enhance the experience by engaging the senses within and translating spoken words and voices to visuals and sounds. It was a sensory experiential translation of the poem by Nizar Qabbani.

THE SCREAMING ONE

Photos from the exhibited D02 piece at Downtown Design during Dubai Design Week.

This piece was designed in a singular piece by piece separated form to enhance the experience in the space and add sound to it.

The structure casted sounds when the letter shapes touched each other which gave the audience an added level of interaction with the piece.

The piece was exhibited in Courtyard, Dubai as part of Dubai Art Month during 2020.
Unheard Voices D02 was also part of the Scripts and Calligraphy: A Timeless Journey Exhibition in Riyadh in 2021.
