THE RED LIST COLLECTION | SAMAR
Silk screen scarf design | Trial & Error
‘Vachellia Tortilis,’ locally known as Samar, is one of the many trees and species on the red list of ongoing threats to the known population due to the decline in the quality of its habitat. It is officially classified as Endangered.
Samar is generally an Arabic female given name meaning "evening conversations (including Arabic music and poetry)". Here I decided to personalize the tree and make it speak with its voice and tone. Using a poetic take on typography, writing a message from Samar to raise awareness of its presence and qualities.
The scarf includes the designs of Ranim Halaky and Niloufar Namvar, designed at a workshop with Ghalia ElSrakbi at 421, Abu Dhabi. This was part of the 100/100 Arabic Posters and Trial & Error Symposium.
